House Minutes - November 29th, 2009

We finally have a digital copy of the t-shirt design, thanks Tiffany! We'll be sending an image of the t-shirt out to everyone on the listhost for comments.

We might add "Straight outta Compton" to the back of the t-shirt, if less than half of the house objects. oh god anna is reading this time to censor everything

People nitpick for ten minutes over small details that could be hashed out much more efficiently over email or in small committee format. I love house council so much.

Anna: "Aleks, you can be sous czar!" SO FRENCH

We have a number of broken locks in the house kitchen, from what we think is people just drunkenly forcing the cabinets open. Please don't break the locks.

Also, housing staff are supposed to clean our kitchen floors once a week. They haven't been doing this, but hopefully they'll start soon once Anna and Dan start pestering them to do so.

Poker tournament needs promoting. Apparently people are afraid to join - we're all newbies here! Check on Valentine's Day to see if anyone has a claim on that. Henderson House does crushed cans of soda for Valentine's Day, but that might be an old practice. Some house apparently does condom-grams for Valentine's Day. Best house ever.

We only have 8 people signed up for broomball. Come on people, it's by far the best IM - maximum gratification for minimum skill.

House Minutes - November 15th, 2009

On the agenda for today - T-shirts and fundraisers.

Ben's not here so Aaron's running the show today.

T-shirts aren't ready yet; on Monday the designs were given to Tiffany. The idea is "a playground version of DGH". Lots of little details. Evan seems to be very willing to mention that PEOPLE ARE NOT AT THE MEETING WHERE ARE THEY

Neelam shows up just as Evan is saying that she's not here. The design is "DGH made out of things you would normally find on a playground, like slides and ladders and things like that. [...] No slogan [...] White on dark green, not sure if anyone has a problem with that." They haven't gotten it on the computer and cleaned up (that's Tiffany's part).

We have to come up with a gift to present to Mr. DelGiorno at the donor party being arranged.

"Is this seriously an idea?" "I don't even know what it is, but no." - Anna, in response to Tex's discussion of the DGH calendar. Tex then proceeds to make several amusing sexual puns referencing Chinese buns and DGH men. So yeah, this idea is pretty much DOA.

The house auction is also a good fundraiser, typically - people can auction off (non-sexual) services, products, pretty much anything. There are usually really good deals there, and you'd be surprised how much useless stuff people are wiling to buy to support the house too!

Tex's in-house poker tournament is on the Friday of reading period, December 4th. He'll start advertising for that soon. If it's popular enough, then it may turn into a quarterly thing. Anna isn't 100% comfortable doing it that reading period since it might impede upon quiet hours but they'll talk about it. This also can't be inter-house since we'd have to get the approval of the housing office and... well, they probably wouldn't be receptive to gambling.

Maybe a Smash Brothers tournament could be run as an inter-house event? We'd charge an entrance fee and could maybe award a plaque or trophies to the winners.

Sam: [Explanation of timed modes in Smash Bros. games]
Anna: Okay, well, Sam, you wanna run it?
Sam: Damn. Okay.

We'll probably schedule everything (poker tournament, auction, Christmas market, etc) in one weekend as part of a larger "House Activities Weekend".

The Box is, again, DOA. It comes up every house meeting and people very quickly move onto the next topic. Good night, sweet prince.

Tex wants to lead a house trip to see the Boondock Saints 2 sometime. Movie night in general hasn't been very successful; various reasons are proposed as to why it's not doing well. Obviously it's because Katie's movie choices suck.

Anna accuses Charles of lying. Because he does. A lot. Matt Southward sucks too. A lot.

Dan & Anna have not yet labeled their dishes; their dishes are KOS. Gentle reminder: label your dishes tonight or tomorrow because confiscation will start on Tuesday.

HOUSE MEETING

Anna is so angry at me help

No alcohol at the poker tournament?! Wow, what a lame event. $10 buy-in, half of the pot goes to the house, the other half goes to the top 3 (40-30-25). Wait, that doesn't add up to 100. Someone's skimming a little off the top.

Tex might be going to Boondock Saints 2 downtown this weekend at the AMC River East. The official day is Thursday, though they might be doing it, you know, actually on the weekend.

We should have a suggestion box in the lounge. That's going on the agenda next week. Also our movies suck so far.

House Minutes - November 7th, 2009

Today is all about kitchen policy.
Ben has written a policy memo on this matter, with three main points:
  1. Masking tape and industrial sharpies to label dishes. Requiring people to label dishes will let us know who's leaving unwashed dishes behind, and will allow us to actually resolve cleanup issues on a one-on-one basis. Masking tape won't melt in the microwave, and will not melt with hot water.
  2. Unwashed and abandoned dishes will be repossessed and stored a designated place. They will then be sold back at a rate of $1/dish.
  3. People who sign up to clean the kitchen will be entered into a quarterly raffle (only one raffle entry per person) for a ~$20 gift card to a restaurant or something like that.
Aaron has a few proposals of his own:
  1. Unless you're in the house, you can't use our kitchen.
  2. Ice needs to be replenished by the people who use it.
  3. All of Ben's proposals
Aleks isn't here; we'll let him know that if he doesn't come here next week, then we'll ask him to resign.

I'll send out an email to the listhost telling people about this website.

Voting on kitchen policy commences.
  1. Everyone has to leave the kitchen cleaner or as clean as they left it. Passes unanimously.
  2. Everyone has to label everything left in the house kitchen with masking tape and permanent marker (provided by the house) with their name and/or initials. Common items will be labeled DGH and provided in the kitchen. Common items must be cleaned and returned to the kitchen within 24 hours. Passes unanimously.
  3. House Council members will conduct random checks of the kitchen. Dishes left in the kitchen without their owner in the immediate vicinity will be repossessed and stored in a locked kitchen cabinet, to be sold back to the owner at a rate of $1 per piece. Owners of repossessed items can contact anybody on the House Council via email to arrange repurchase of their items. Money collected will be deposited into the house funds. Passes unanimously.
  4. The opportunity to clean the house kitchen by Monday at 11:59PM will be provided each week for up to two people. Cleanings must include cleaning the stove, wiping counters and the microwave, and mopping the floor. Equipment to clean the kitchen will be made available to volunteers at cost to the house. Upon completion of the cleanings, volunteers will contact a member of the House Council Executive Council, the Kitchen Czar, or staff member to inspect the cleaning. Those volunteers who clean the kitchen will be entered into a quarterly raffle at the end of the quarter for a $20 gift card to any reasonable establishment of the winner's choosing, which will be obtained by Dan and Anna. Passes unanimously.
  5. Common dishes will be recorded and kept track of weekly by the Kitchen Czar. This includes repossessed items. Passes unanimously.
  6. Dishes must be labeled within a week of the purchase of a house permanent marker, which will be made available for the house's use to label their dishes. This will be announced via house listhost. Passes unanimously.
Dan and Anna will talk to the housing staff who have been hanging around our lounge and the Cave to make sure that doesn't happen in the future.

T-Shirts next week, recap of kitchen policy.

House Minutes - November 1st, 2009

House websites: No. At least, not yet. None of the houses in SCRH have websites yet and nobody knows when they're going up.

T-Shirt Committee: Check back spring quarter. All right. This meeting is off to a good start!

Kitchen: Aaron claims that other people (not in our house) use our kitchen!!!!!!!!!Maybe we could label everything in the kitchen to mark public dishes. Since we have locked cabinets, we can start moving unmarked dishes to those and just wait for people to complain. The kitchen is just filthy in general, christ people. If you see non-DelGiorno people using the kitchen, please politely show them the window exits.

Sam says that we should have incentives for people to keep the kitchen clean. Maybe put names into a raffle to win prizes based on how often they clean the kitchen. Have a sign-up sheet for two people a week, have a cap on how many times your name can be entered into the raffle. Regulation? Not in my free market.

Kathleen suggests that we start charging people for leaving dirty dishes in the kitchen, locking them up in the cabinets if they're left out and charging money to return them to them.

Having drain problems? Rescom can handle that.

We could do a membership thing with changing the door locks on the kitchen, but there are problems with people letting their friends in. Can't do this because changing the kitchen door lock involves changing the door locks across the entire dorm.

We could force people to label their dishes and confiscate unlabeled dishes - this would let us find out who's leaving dishes out. Announce this at the next house meeting (not tonight) after we've gone over these not--- wait what they're going to use these notes oh crap

We need to delineate the Kitchen Czar's duties and send them out to the council, so we all know what he's supposed to be doing and when, and so we can actually implement this plan of regulating kitchen use. He should also come to house meeting so he knows what's going on and what we need to do to fix these issues.

IHC: Met with dining contract overseer, Richard Mason. They're trying to fix the issues with SCRHDH, like vegan not being vegan and forks not existing and. Printing is weird because Canon is handling it and nobody on campus actually knows how it works. Hopefully it'll be worked out soon. Transportation issues should be directed to IHC or Patricia Padurean, who heads the committee responsible for those.

Apparently the chance of a drive-by when you're getting off the South route and walking back to SCRH is HUGE. I've already been shot eight times. Tonight.

Birthday Pixies are doing a wonderful job, as always. The one silver lining to our thundercloud of a meeting.

We're doing "ok" on funding, will discuss kitchen policy, t-shirts, fundraising at next meeting.

Excom needs to be here every meeting. Someone should've told me this when I signed up for this position, dammit.

Anyone having plumbing issues? Apparently corner rooms are. Our DelGiorno lounge sign got ruined by water damage :< problems with your keycard, let Dan and Anna know. They've gotten more info on the issues, and they'll point you in the right direction. Also, if you get a new ID, make sure you make them transfer your printing money over. It will be gone otherwise.

Ben Smithgall talks about the kitchen reform bill being pushed through the Senate. Is there a public option? Unlabeled dishes in the kitchen are going to be confiscated two weeks from now. The moment he mentioned positive incentives, all hell breaks loose

With Ben Horn. dun cry ben

If you have suggestions and/or concerns, yell at Ben Smithgall about it.

Bulls game in January! Email Matt about it if you're interested ASAP.

Fall Formal transportation is being provided. Buy within the next 20 minutes and Matt will get an additional ticket for FREE!

BRING CANNED FOOD TO THE LOUNGE AND PUT IT IN THE BOX.
